Why people keep coming back

  • Annie Sloan stockistThe full Chalk Paint range with waxes, brushes and finishes, and painting classes through the year.
  • Local artists next doorThe adjoining art room hangs paintings, prints and handmade jewelry by makers from around the county.
  • Two floors to work throughA second floor upstairs, and a rack of marked-down pieces for anyone willing to dig.

From one booth to a shop on First Street

Home Inspirations started as a single booth in an antique mall. Nicolette filled it with the things she would have wanted in her own house - French furniture, gilt and mirrored pieces, objects with some age and some story to them - and kept taking on more space until a booth turned into a shop in the middle of the historic district.

The stock still gets chosen the same way. Every piece is bought individually, which is why the room changes week to week and why the answer to "do you have another one of these" is almost always no. Some of it arrives already beautiful. Some of it gets painted, waxed, and put back into service.

That second habit is how the Annie Sloan wall happened. Once you have restored enough furniture yourself, people start asking what you used - so the shop carries the whole Chalk Paint range, the waxes and brushes that go with it, and runs classes for anyone who wants to try it on a piece of their own.

Come in and work through it slowly. There is an upstairs, there is an art room next door hung with work by local painters, and there is usually somebody behind the counter happy to tell you where something came from.

What people say

Really cool vintage store. I have been to many shops and this one was really fun. Lots to see and many beautiful paintings. There is also an upstairs with additional decor that goes on sale. Across the hall they have a clothing section as well. Definitely a cool shop to check out.

Really nice place to visit! They have a lot of awesome items - I especially loved the tiara they had on display. There is also an upper floor, though it is smaller, but everything is thoughtfully arranged and designed. Loved the overall vibe and would definitely recommend stopping by!

Such a good find! I ended up going here with a friend and loved all the beautiful decorations and furniture, but I especially loved the clothes that they had. I found such a variety of styles, sizes, and fun things. Great prices too. The two employees there were also super kind and helpful.

Before you come

What days are you open?

Seven days a week, 11am to 5pm. Hours around the major holidays can move, so call the shop if you are driving a distance.

Do you carry the full Annie Sloan range?

Yes - the whole Chalk Paint color range in sample and full tins, along with the soft and dark waxes, lacquer, brushes and transfers. Ask in the shop about upcoming painting classes.

Is it all antique?

No. It is a mix of genuine antiques, newer French-style furniture, pieces we have painted and restored ourselves, and home decor. Anything you are unsure about, ask - we will tell you what we know about where it came from.

Can you hold something for me?

Call the shop and ask. Stock is one-of-a-kind and moves quickly, so the sooner you ring the better.

How much is there to see?

More than one room. There is a second floor upstairs, and the art room next door hangs work by local painters and makers. Give yourself longer than you think.
